Of the eighteen Perth scholarship schools we track, exactly one — St George’s — sets an EduTest paper. If that school is on your list, this page is for you. If it is not, the AAS explainer is almost certainly the one you need.
EduTest is one of the three companies that write scholarship entrance exams for Australian independent schools, alongside Academic Assessment Services (AAS) and ACER. In the eastern states it is common. In Perth, among the eighteen schools we track, one school sets it: St George’s.
That makes EduTest the second most likely paper a Perth family will meet — a long way behind AAS, but a long way ahead of ACER, which no school in the set uses at all. Check the dates table for the current provider before you rely on this page; schools do change providers, and we re-verify every season.
It is tempting to think a scholarship exam is a scholarship exam. It is not. Each provider designs its own paper: its own section list, its own question styles, its own timing per section, its own marking. Reasoning questions from one provider do not look like reasoning questions from another, and a child who has learnt to pace one paper has learnt the wrong pace for the other.
EduTest publishes its own description of what its paper contains. Read it there, on EduTest’s own site or in the candidate information St George’s sends out, rather than from any reseller — including us. We deliberately do not reprint another company’s section list and timings on this page: they are EduTest’s to state and they can change without our knowing.
AAS-style material does not transfer cleanly to an EduTest paper, and EduTest-style material does not transfer cleanly to AAS. The underlying skills overlap — a child who reasons well reasons well on either — but the question shapes and the pacing are different enough that practising one for the other builds the wrong reflexes. That is why we keep the two kinds of material separate, rather than selling one “scholarship” book and hoping.
The common Perth situation is a family applying to two or three AAS schools and St George’s. Some practical advice:
EduTest does not release past papers. Neither does AAS, and neither does ACER. Everything sold as EduTest preparation is style material written to the published shape of the paper — and that is true of ours as well. The AAS explainer goes into why this matters and what separates good style material from bad; the same reasoning applies here.
Because only one Perth school sets EduTest, our EduTest-style pack is smaller than the AAS-style one and it is kept completely separate. It follows the same rule as everything else we make: every question carries a full worked explanation written by a teacher, not a tick or a cross. It is original material, written in Western Australia, and it is style practice — not the real paper, and no score in it predicts an outcome.
