Almost every scholarship practice book sold in Australia is written for the ACER or EduTest exams, because that is what the eastern states sit. Perth mostly does not. Our practice is AAS-style — built for the paper your child will actually sit — and every question comes with a full worked explanation from a WA teacher.

Ten Perth schools set a paper from Academic Assessment Services. This is the WA scholarship exam, and it is the one almost nobody writes practice for.

One school — St George’s — uses EduTest. We keep EduTest-style material separate so it never blurs into the AAS work.

No school in the set names ACER. ACER is the exam most bookshop and online prep is written for — the eastern-states default.

Trinity sets its own paper. Ask the school directly what it covers; no commercial practice is built for it, including ours.
WHY THE FORMAT MATTERS
The three providers test different things, in different formats, under different timing. A child drilled on ACER-style material walks into the AAS Reasoning and Problem Solving section and meets around sixty questions that mix verbal, figural and numerical reasoning together in one sitting. Practice for the wrong exam is not harmless — it teaches the wrong instincts about pace and question shape, and it uses up the family’s patience on the wrong thing.

Applying to an AAS school

Applying to several schools
Separate registrations, separate fees and separate exam mornings spread across a fortnight. If they are all AAS schools, one set of AAS-style practice covers every sitting.
Applying to St George’s
The one EduTest school in Perth. Our EduTest-style material is kept apart from the AAS work, because the two papers are not the same.

Style practice, not the real test. No score here predicts a scholarship outcome, and nobody who says otherwise has seen the real paper either.

Start with the dates. The free Perth table lists every school we track with its test provider, application window, test date and the year levels it offers — so you know which paper you are preparing for before you buy anything from anyone.
Then read about the paper. The AAS explainer walks through each section, what it rewards, and what good preparation looks like from a teacher’s side of the desk.
Scholarship season is the other end of the year from NAPLAN and OLNA. Applications open around October, most Perth testing happens in February, and the two do not collide — a Year 6 family can prepare for a February scholarship sitting and still have the whole autumn for Year 7 NAPLAN. Starting in October gives a child a term of steady, unhurried practice; starting in January gives them a sprint. Either works. Cramming the week before does not.
